2021 Sutallee Returns! Trail Run - POSTPONED

We are sorry to report that our Sutallee Returns! Trail Race that was scheduled on March 13, 2021 will need to be postponed. The City of Canton has suspended all special event permits through March 31st. We hope to able to host this event in the fall of 2021, however it will be a stand alone race and not part of the Trail Run Series. Any new details will be posted here once we have them.

Thanks to the effort of the Trace Trail Stewards and Boy Scout Troop 241 in re-establishing these trails after a recent timber harvest, we are excited to return to Boling Park in 2021 for our Season Opener! This beautiful and rugged trail run takes you along scenic ridgelines, in lush creek valleys and along the banks of the Etowah River.

Directions to Boling Park

From Atlanta: Take I-75 to I-575. Get off I-575 exit 16 and keep left to merge onto GA-140 W/GA-20 W toward GA-5 N. At the traffic light (there will be a Williamson Bros BBQ at this intersection), turn right onto GA-140 W. Proceed less than a half mile, crossing over the Etowah River. Immediately after the Etowah River bridge, take your first left into the park driveway. There is a large Boling Park Sign. If you pass Cherokee High School, you went too far. Follow the park road about a half mile, going past the soccer fields and water treatment facilities to a larger parking area near a picnic shelter. Race check-in and start will be on the gravel jogging path adjacent to this parking lot.

Mountain Goat Adventures Trail Run Operational Changes for COVID-19 (This could change or become more restrictive depending on CDC guidelines at time of race)

• Health screening questionnaire for all event volunteers and staff per CDC recommendations. No one that has tested positive in the past 14 days, has symptoms of being sick or a fever will be allowed to participate.
• All volunteers and race staff will wear a face covering while in the start/finish area, at event check-in, aid stations or within 6’ of others. Hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and spray available in multiple areas near start/finish, check-in, and at aid stations.
• Registration and check-in stations will be spread out to ensure 6’ minimum spacing and only one person may approach the check-in station at a time, with 6’ minimum spacing for those standing in line. Participants will have the option of picking up race packet on Thursday night to avoid Saturday morning check-in. Waivers should be printed and signed at home and brought to the race. Hand sanitizer available for event staff and participants checking in.
• Participants are required to wear a face covering to pick up their race number/shirt or post-race snacks/water. Check-in area and water/snack pick up area will be spaced out to provide for social distancing per CDC recommendations.
• Waivers are to be printed at home and brought to the event, no community pens.
• Participants and any spectators will be encouraged to wear a face covering while at the event. Disposable masks will be available to those who do not have them. Participants who are not wearing a mask outdoors must stay 6’ away from those not in their family/run group.
• No pre-race group meeting. Pre-race meeting will be emailed to participants ahead of time. Any last minute communications will be printed out and posted so that participants can photograph with their phone and read elsewhere.
• No mass start – We will offer a small group start that will be released first for those wishing to run fast and pace against others. This is recommended for those vying for a top 3 overall, but is totally optional. The rest of the starts will be time trial format over a 30 minute period, whenever runners wish to start within that period.
Masks are recommended in the start line.
• No aid station for short courses. Long course participants are strongly encouraged to pack their own water to minimize use of the on-course aid stations.
• Aid station on course will be staffed by masked individuals. Hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and spray available at the aid stations.
• Results will be posted at mgaresults.com so that participants can view the results immediately via their own phone and do not have to congregate around results printouts.
• Maintain CDC recommended guidelines for social distancing and face covering usage while at event venue.
• Hand wash stations and restrooms available at start/finish area.
• Social distanced awards in a large outdoor open area, face coverings recommended.

Camping and Lodging

The closest hotels are in Canton, GA near I-575 @ Riverstone Pkwy (Exit 20 on I-575). There is a Hampton Inn, Country Inn and Suites, Comfort Inn, and Homestead Inn. You can also search for hotels in Woodstock, GA along I-575, which is 10-15 mins away from the venue.

Camping is not allowed at Boling Park, however there are several campgrounds along Lake Allatoona, which are 15-30 mins away, depending on which location you choose.

The race will feature the following age group categories for both the 4 and 7 mile race. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each age group, in each race. We will also recognize the top three overall male and female finishers. All kids race participants will receive a finisher medal.

Awards

$100 cash prize to first place overall male and female runner in the long AND short course events!

In addition to prizes and medals for the top 3 overall male and female, medals will be presented to the top 3 finishers in each age category.

All of our first place winners in the long course race will receive a custom podium shirt.

The awards ceremony for the 4 mile race will take place at approximately 10 am. The awards ceremony for the 7 mile race will take place at approximately 10:30 am to allow the majority of 7 mile racers to finish. You must be present at the awards ceremony to receive your award. Awards and prizes will not be mailed. If you win something and bail on the awards ceremony, your prize will be added to the raffle goodies pile or given to a race volunteer.

Kids Race

We will also offer a FREE kids 10 and under race, which will take place on the Boling Park Jogging Track. All kids race participants will receive a finisher medal. The kids race is not officially timed and no pre-registration is required, however parents must sign a waiver for their children and pick up a race number at registration and check-in.

T-Shirts and Swag

Your registration fee includes a soft and comfy cotton blend T-shirt. The deadline to be guaranteed a shirt in the size requested is February 27th. If you register after Feb 27th, you will still receive a shirt, however, limited sizes/styles may be available. If you register late and we run out of event specific shirts, you will receive a Mountain Goat logo tee with your registration. Shirts run true to size. Ladies shirts are slightly longer and more fitted.

Cancellations, Transfers, and Inclement Weather

Please note EVENT ENTRIES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE once you register, as we plan for your attendance by purchasing your race shirt and swag, meals, insurance, etc and most other costs associated with your entry need to be paid up front. No refunds will be given in the event of an act of God or event beyond the control of the Race Organization (i.e. COVID) that requires cancellation of the race for the saftey of participants. If the event is rescheduled all entries will be transferred to the reschedule date.

We do, however, understand that injuries happen, you got sick or life was just too chaotic to train for one of our events so we have a no-penalty transfer policy. You may transfer your entry to another racer in the SAME EVENT without penalty until March 8, 2021. You are responsible for finding the person interested in buying your entry and working out payment with them. Entries do not transfer to other events nor do they transfer year to year. If you would like to sell your entry to another racer, please contact lisa@mountaingoatadventures.com with the name and email of the person you wish to transfer your entry to no later than March 8.

The race will run rain or shine, however, the Race Director reserves the right to cancel or modify segments of the event as deemed necessary for participant safety or preservation of trail. Once the race has started, no refunds will be given due to delayed start or early conclusion of the race.
